It was a sad day for John Coffey as he walks The Green Mile today. He sat and we strap him on the electric chair. I started to weep in tears while I strap him on the chair. "Wipe your face before you stand up Dean." Paul said. "Yes sir." I said while wiping my face. We finish strapping him on the chair, "Roll on one." said Paul. They turn the switch on to make the room brighter, John looks around to see what's happening. "Does it hurt yet, I hope it does, I hope it hurts like HELL!" said the Woman. "John Coffey you've been condemn to die in the electric chair by the jury of your peers sentence propose by the judge in good stand in this state, do you have anything to say before the sentence is carried out?" Paul said. "I'm sorry for what I am." John said emotionally. One of the guard was about to put the mask when John utter a word. "Please boss! Don't put that damn thing in my face." John said pleadingly. "Don't put me in the dark, I'm afraid of the dark." John said. "I'll take it of." Paul Said, he signal the guard to take it off.
Paul kneel down and soak the sponge in the bucket and place the sponge on John's head, John prayed while they strap the electric device on his head. "John Coffey, the electricity will be pass through out your body, according to the state law.......... May God have mercy in your soul" Paul said. I was about to burst in tears but I hold it back. The whole room was silence, none of us utter a word. Brutal went over to Paul. "Boss, you have to say it, you have to give him" he whispered. Paul stared at John's eyes for a second and went over to him. He took his hand and shook it, like he was saying goodbye to him but without saying anything.......... "Roll on two......." he said. The guard immediately pull the lever and electrocuted John....... The feeling of sadness filled the whole room as John was electrocuted. All of us tried to hold back our tears, it was hard for me to do it, seeing an innocent person executed. The lights behind Paul blew out but we ignored it. We watch as John's life started to fade...fade.......slowly fading from the earth..........
That was the last time I saw him.............................
